There are many textbooks for JLPT N2 and N1.

New Kanzen Master is one of the popular series. 

JLPTのテキストで「新完全マスター」シリーズは人気がありますね。

I have been using this series quite often, especially with my students who like studying Japanese in depth.

Since the explanations are all in Japanese, they require a lot of patience and time. I wouldn’t recommend them for people who found N3 or N2 a struggle, but if you enjoy learning grammatical structures, they are very useful.

文法の説明は全て日本語で書かれているのでかなり大変ですが、この説明で理解できればかなりのレベルアップになると思います。

特に細かい文法を学ぶのが好きな学習者の方ならこのシリーズはおすすめです。N3やN2にギリギリ合格した、という場合はちょっと難しいかもしれません。

It is very important to understand Japanese grammar points as expressed in Japanese.

With only the English explanations, it is difficult to understand the different nuances between similar grammar points.

細かい表現のちがいは英語には訳せないものが多く、日本語で理解することが必要です。JLPTを受けないという人でも、日本語で小説を読みたい、など特に書き言葉を学ぶにはいいかなと思います。

If you don’t have enough time to prepare for the JLPT, or you have a different learning style, I can recommend different textbooks.

This is also a popular series, and the example sentences include English translations. The book is designed to be studied over eight weeks.

このシリーズも人気があります。例文に英語の訳がついていますし、８週間で学習するようになっているので予定が立てやすいです。

今はいろいろなテキストがあるので自分にとって使いやすいものを探してみてください。

このTRYのシリーズもレッスンで時々使っています。バランスよく勉強できると思います。

This is also a good option if you want to study in a well-balanced way.

If you have taken the JLPT N1 multiple times but haven’t passed yet, I recommend going back to the N2 textbooks. This may feel like a backward step, but it is an important process.　Based on my experience, the students who barely passed N2 may not be ready for N1 level study.

JLPTN1に、何回も挑戦しているけどなかなか合格できない人もいますよね。そんなときはN2のテキストを復習してみてください。N2にぎりぎりで合格した人は特に復習が必要です。

The content for both N1 and N2 overlap, meaning you need to remember enough grammar points from the N2 level. 

N1とN2の文法は重なる部分もありますし、N2の文法が理解できないとN1の読解で正しい答えを見つけるのは難しくなります。

When I take the exam, usually once I pass, I don’t want to see the textbooks again! So if you are like me and don’t like working on the same book again you can get a new one, but it is better to go through the N2 book one more time.

私もテストに合格したら、もう2度とこのテキストは見たくない！と思ったことがあります。もうやりたくないですよね。同じテキストが嫌なら別のテキストでもいいんですけど、やっぱり復習をすることは大切なんです。

Anyway, the exam requires tactics, like a technique so if you can’t pass,  it doesn’t necessarily mean you are not at an advanced level. I believe that continuing to revise and learn still helps you a lot. Please continue your studies without stressing yourself too much.

ただ、試験は試験なので、テクニックや合格するための戦略があれば合格できるという人もいます。N1に合格できないからといって、上級レベルじゃないわけではありません。合格してもしなくても、続けて学ぶことや復習することは役に立ちます！あまりストレスにならないように勉強を続けてくださいね。
